WORLD CHILDREN'S RIGHTS DAY: BASA SOLITIS SUPPORT FOR CHILD RIGHTS
Every year on November 20, World Children's Day is observed to encourage global solidarity, awareness among children around the world, and advancements in children's welfare.
This day, which was created by the UN in 1954, also marks the adoption of two important agreements: the Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) and the Declaration of the Rights of the Child (1959). The day is a worldwide appeal to guarantee children's rights to healthcare, education, and a safe, happy childhood.
"For every child, every right" is the theme for Universal Children's Day in 2024. This theme highlights how crucial it is to guarantee that every kid has access to their fundamental rights.
In a goodwill message made available to press by Honorable Bolanle Aminat Sarumi Aliyu on Wednesday 20th November 2024, she enjoined all to unite to honour and share acts and messages of love, and best wishes with our beloved children.
The PDP chieftain stressed that children are the joy of today and hope for tomorrow. She lent her voice to the rights of the child as entrenched in the UN charters of 1954, 1959 and 1989. The rights of the child include
- Right to Basic Needs like food, healthcare, and education.
- Right to Protection: Children must be shielded from exploitation, abuse, and harm.
- Right to Development: Children should be equipped to earn a livelihood and reach their full potential.
- Right to Social Responsibility: Children should be taught to utilize their talents for the betterment of society.
BASA as she is fondly called has over the years been involved in development of children welfare facilities and education. Her passion for child rights and support stands her in good stead above others.
So, to her World Children's Rights Day is a day for showing love for children and ensuring their rights.
